| There are two basic
methods of producing hashish. The first, used to produce hash from
Morocco and the Lebanon, involves sifting the mature cannabis tops
through a series of fine sieves until a resinous powder remains.
This powder is compressed and heated to allow the resins to melt,
binding the remaining vegetable matter. The resin is compressed into
blocks sealed with cellophane or cloth. The resultant resin may be
any colour from a light yellow-brown, to a greenish-brown or even
reddish-brown. The consistency is normally hard and brittle,
sometimes layered (light Moroccan) and sometimes slightly malleable
(Lebanese). The
second method, used in the Indian sub-continent, involves rubbing
the resinous tops of the plant with the hands or a leather apron, or
other implements, allowing the resins to stick to the skin. These
are then scraped off the skin or leather and rolled into lumps of
various sizes, and later compressed into blocks. The colour is
usually dark-brown to black on the surface, lighter in the interior.
The consistency is normally soft, and a lump can be moulded into
various shapes, or rolled into long "strings". |

Also known as polm,
kief, kef, keef or kif. The dried resin glands (or trichomes) of
cannabis which accumulates on containers or has been removed with a
kiefing screen or sieve. Kief is a rare item among consumers of
cannabis, and is prized because of its extremely high THC content. A
small amount is typically placed on top of cannabis when loaded in a
smoking pipe or bong and requires good cornering technique to avoid
burning all of it at once. Kief can also be smoked on its own or
vaporized for inhalation.
A kiefing screen
is extremely fine; in fact, one can barely feel the holes by touch.
Some people will store their cannabis in a box with a kiefing screen
at the bottom. Over time the agitation of storing and removing
cannabis in this box will force the kief off the cannabis buds
through the screen, where it is collected and removed.
The word "kief"
comes from an Arabic language word (classical Arabic form kaif
كيف) meaning
"pleasure, well being."
Kief is perhaps the simplest form of hash. It can
be found by taking a bud covered in trichomes and brushing it. The
dust that falls off is kief. This dust is essentially trichomes that
have broken off of the plant. This dust is often the byproduct of
grinders used to break the bud up as well. An additional method of
obtaining trichomes is to rub the bud against silk. These trichomes,
or resin glands, may be inadvertently combined with small pieces of
plant matter that may break off from the bud, which is detrimental
to the quality of the kief. Once collected, the dust may be smoked
as-is or subjected to high pressure until compressed into a hard
piece
Golden pollen hash comes mainly from Morocco,
Lebanon and other Arab/Middle Eastern nations. Common forms are Red
Leb and Slate. |

The resin gland-rich flowering tops of female
plants. This is the most common form of marijuana bought and smoked.
The more trichomes (chrystals) found on the bud, generally the more
potent the bud is. Bud can be very dense and sticky, or if drier it
is easily crumbled into a powder-like substance. |

Hash oil is a
thick black oil made from hash. It is also known as honey oil. The
hash is heated and pressed to
release the oil.
(Same process used to make hash from marijuana, but carried
to an extreme.)
Its almost like a tar; very sticky, very thick. Hash oil is very
potent due to its high THC concentration, which generally varies
between 15% and 20%, but can reach 60% to 70% in some cases.
Also known as;
lube, oil or grease. It usually becomes available in England and
parts of Canada for short periods of time every so often, but it is
harder to find in most parts of the US. It commonly sold in 1 gram
to 5 gram vials made of glass or plastic. It's very thick, and
sticks to everything. It ruins clothes; the only thing that will
take it off your skin or counter tops is denatured alcohol or a
similar solvent. The buzz is very relaxing, almost paralyzing.
Hash oil can be
smeared on a cigarette or a joint, more effectively it can be warmed
and spread across a rolling paper and rolled up with marijuana. It's
sometimes mixed in food (such as space cakes or bhang). It can also
be burned on a hot object, such as an electric stove element or car
cigarette lighter, and the smoke inhaled through a hollow tube,
often a empty pen tube and called a hooter. Sometimes the knife is
heated with a blowtorch Burning off a hot knife is known as blades,
spotting or hot knifing, where the hash oil is scraped out of the
vial with a bobby pin or safety pin and touched on a hot butter
knife where it burns and the smoke is inhaled. In some areas,
another method of intake involved special coal that is ignited and
can be used to burn the hash oil, dripping it on tin foil, holding a
flame source underneath and inhaling the smoke (which is rumoured to
cause brain tumors and/or alzheimers. Not confirmed however). A
seldom practiced method is to use an empty plastic pop bottle,
burning/cutting a hole at the bottom, placing the cap on and
dropping some hash oil on the end of a burning cigarette and
allowing the bottle to fill with smoke. This a very unfavorable
method due to the second hand smoke from the cigarette.
Oil can also be
obtained from excess leaves and stalks which are not usually smoked.
This involves using lighter gas such as butane and spraying large
amounts of the butane into a plastic pipe filled with leaves and
stalks, which freezes the plant material and allows the oil to drip
out. However this is an extremely dangerous method for a number of
reasons. The butane is highly flammable and can contaminate the oil
hence poisoning you if it is not very thoroughly purified. Therefore
it is not recommended to be tried at home. |
